Bruny Island

Zu fünft haben wir uns in einen kleinen Nissan Tiida gequetscht. Ach, für die kurzen Strecken war das in Ordnung. Es war eine halbe Stunde zur Fähre. Einchecken, rauf aufs Boot, Bierchen, runter vom Boot, Lunchen am Strand und dann zur Penguin Rookery. Einem Nistplatz von Pinguinen und anderen Seevögeln. Man sollte es eher „Stairway to heaven“ nennen (siehe Foto demnächst). Nach ein bisschen schauen und sitzen und genießen, fahren wir zum Zeltplatz. Danach gehen wir zum Strand. Ich gehe ein Stück mit Carolin, der Deutschen, die ich angesprochen hatte im Hostel gestern. Ah, endlich jemand, der etwas älter ist :). Luisa, Jana und Brett sind am Bauen von einem Pinguin. Wir fangen also an zu kochen. Danach sind wir nochmal zur Penguin Rookery gefahren, um kleine Pinguine zu sehen, die aus dem Meer zu den Nestern watscheln. Leider erfolglos. Aber jemand mit einer Taschenlampe mit einem Rotfilter leuchtet das Gebiet aus und wir haben einen Pinguin gesehen, der seinen Schlafplatz gesucht hat. Ich hab herrlich geschlafen, ohne Schnarcher, mit Meer im Hintergrund!! Nachdem wir unser Brot rösten konnten beim Frühstück (Brett hat das Feuer wieder angefacht) haben wir die Zelte abgebrochen und sind Richtung Adventure Bay gefahren. Dort haben wir eine Wanderung zu dem Fluted Cape gemacht auf 272m. So tolle Aussichten über die Cliffs und Meer. Und endlich hatten wir wieder gutes Wetter. Als wir wieder zurück am Strand waren, sind wir dann zu einem Picknickspot gefahren um zu lunchen. Nach einer spannenden Fahrt erreichten wir auch unseren zweiten Campspot. Nachdem wir den angeschaut und eingeschätzt haben, ging es zum Strand zum Ausruhen und Feuerholz sammeln. Später am Lagerfeuer gab es mal keine Nudeln sondern Kartoffeln im Feuer gekocht. Mmmh! Gesellig am Feuer haben wir den Abend ausklingen lassen.
Das Wasser war am nächsten Tag alle, deswegen mussten wir erst einmal wieder in ein Dorf um die Vorräte anzufüllen. Brett kam auf die glorreiche Idee, um Eier zu machen auf einem der vielen kostenlosen Barbecues. Also auf zum Brunch. Nachdem der innere Mensch gestärkt war, haben wir den Leuchtturm besichtigt und sind schwimmen gegangen. Am Anfang waren die Wellen echt super zum „Bodyboarden ohne Bodyboard“. Aber irgendwann waren sie beängstigend stark und nachdem eine Welle den Brett und mich total durchgewirbelt hatte, haben wir doch mal beschlossen damit aufzuhören. Den Nachmittag haben wir dann am Strand gelegen und ‚lekker‘ nichts gemacht. Herrlich! Dann hieß es wieder, den neuen Schlafplatz zu finden und Feuerholz zu sammeln, was eine ganz schöne Herausforderung war. Aber der Strand hat dies wieder gut gemacht. So wunderschön, kaum Wellen, weißer, feiner Sand. Sonne! Später, nach dem Abendessen hat Jana dann ihre Künste im Umgang mit den Pois gezeigt. Also, so brennende Dinger, die die Mittelalterkünstler immer schwingen und Figuren damit machen. Sie konnte es schon echt schön. Toll so eine Privatvorführung. Letztendlich hat jeder mal probiert, aber nachdem sich Luisa ziemlich verbrannt hat, weil sie sich die Kette um das Handgelenk gewickelt hatte ausversehen, war ich doch noch vorsichtiger. Aber das hat schon echt Spaß gemacht und vielleicht findet sich zu Hause ja auch einmal eine Art Workshop oder so! Am letzten Tag haben wir alle zusammen noch eine Rundwanderung gemacht und sind langsam zu Fähre aufgebrochen. Nach der Überfahrt und einem letzten Lunch haben wir die Sachen wieder aufgeteilt und sind sicher und zufrieden der Dusche in Hobart entgegen gefahren.
Carolin und ich werden wahrscheinlich übermorgen weiterfahren Richtung Westküste. Vielleicht finden wir ja noch jemanden, dass es noch etwas günstiger wird. Aber ich bin schon total zufrieden, dass ich wieder jemanden habe zum Weiterreisen, mit dem ich mich verstehe!

ENGLISH VERSION:
We hired a small Nissan Tiida and tried to squeeze everything and everybody in. We did! It was ok, because we had only short drives of max. 45min. After 30min drive to the ferry we checked in, had a beer, got on the ferry while having our beer, left the boat after 15min and had lunchtime at the beach again. After that we went to a penguin rookery. A place, where penguins live and also other seabirds. I would call this place ‘stairway to heaven’ (see the picture which follows the next days on facebook). A nice place to be. We enjoyed the view and another beer and went to the campspot a bit further. Caro (the new girl who joined us a day before when I asked her to do so) and I went on a walk along the beach. The weather was nice again and the beach just beautiful! And I was happy to talk to someone who is a little bit (she is 23) older than the two girls who just came from school :). Luisa, Jana and Brett wanted to finish their sand penguin and we had to get started with the cooking, otherwise it would have been too late for the penguins coming out of the water. So, Caro and I did the cooking and after having dinner we went to the penguin rookery again and tried to see the little penguins coming out of the water. We were not really successful. A woman told us, that the breeding season is almost over and that the penguins stay in the ocean for more than one day and just come out every now and then to look after their young. She had a torch with a redfilder, so we were actually able to see one penguin ‘walking’ up the hill to its nest. Always nice to have a look at them! I slept like a baby this night, no snorer, no traffic noise, no one coughing. Just the sea made noises in the far distance. And birds woke us up the next morning. Brett was able to light the fire again and we had toast for breakfast :). We spent the day in Adventure Bay with a walk of 3hrs to the ‘Fluted Cape’ which had so unbelievable nice views and we tried to spot the dolphins, but we didn’t. Back at the beach where Jana and Brett were waiting for us, we searched for a picnictable and had lunch. The next campsite was one of the loneliest ones I have ever seen, but also really nice! We went to the beach to collect firewood and just enjoyed this beautiful landscape for a few hours. We didn’t have pasta this night which was also a good thing. We had potatoes with butter and salt. Simple meal but everybody just said that we should do this more often :). We spent the evening just watching the flames and enjoy the stars.
We couldn’t have breakfast the next day because we ran out of water. After we refilled our bottles Brett had the idea to buy eggs and scramble them on a BBQ spot. We did and it was delicious. After the brunch we went to the lighthouse and went swimming. The water is a bit cold over here, but it was warm outside – I tried it. And enjoyed! The waves were just perfect to go bodyboarden without a bodyboard. But at some point the waves were stronger and we got smashed by one. We thought that it was better to stop ;-). So, we were lying on a towel on the beach (lucky us, we are not Toni…Tim Minchin) and enjoyed the sun while writing the diary or reading a book. The last campsite on Bruny Island was beautiful as well. A beach with almost white sand, blue water and almost no waves! But it was hard to find firewood. Finally we had enough to have a fire and we had dinner and played cards. After that Jana showed us a bit of magic with the Pois. Two chains with a kind of a ball at the end which can suck lamp oil and burn. You can swing them and make nice figures. It is often used during middelage festivals. She was pretty goed. Everybody could try it but Luisa has been burning her wrist, so I was really careful with trying figures. But it was so nice to try this. And maybe someday if there is a workshop or so I may try it again and learn a bit more. We did a little walk the next morning, caught the ferry and had the last lunch together and divided all the stuff we had left.
Caro and I will try to do the west coast together starting at the 21st of March. Maybe we are able to find someone to join us but this is also already a good setting I think. I am totally happy that I already found someone to travel on till Launceston. And I can get along with her quite well!
